About #OTalk

The Story of OTalk 2011 to 2023 and Beyond
OTalk began in 2011 as a volunteer led initiative. The vision was simple but powerful, to create a regular online space where occupational therapists and students could connect, reflect, and learn together.
From 2011 to 2023 OTalk hosted weekly live chats on Twitter/X. Over those 12 years it became a valued community resource, supporting CPD, building networks, and amplifying voices both inside and outside the profession.
In 2023 the live chats came to a pause. After more than a decade of weekly activity the OTalk team always intended to find a new home, but as a volunteer led project with limited resources it took time to consider what was sustainable.
Now in 2025 and moving forward OTalk has found that new base, the RCOT Communities platform. This gives us a safe and structured home for conversations, but it also means live OTalk discussions will only be accessible to occupational therapists and students who are RCOT members. We know this limits our reach, but it allows OTalk to continue in a way that works with the resources available.
It is important to say, OTalk remains independent. It is not owned or run by RCOT, even though it now has a space on their Communities platform.
To keep OTalk’s spirit alive and visible to a wider audience we are also working to build a presence outside the Communities platform, through Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
We need your help to do this. If you are an occupational therapist or student in the UK with an interest in developing CPD through online platforms, and have skills or enthusiasm for social media, we would love you to get in touch and join the OTalk volunteer team.
